To sum it up in a nutshell, Graphic Design is a means of
communication through the usage of images and typography in order to convey a
defined message to target a segmented audience. It can be used for various
different purposes of which we will discuss later in greater length however,
the artist needs to be creative, resourceful and inspiring in order to achieve his or her goal.

We have all heard the expression, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’, well this can be in most part
true in the world of graphic design but not entirely correct, because in most
cases also words (or Typography) take their own important form and place in the
magnificent world of art. Words can
become images or even works of art, the design and line pattern and arrangement
of words themselves can also be molded in ways to become art.

Individuals who put to great use graphic designs capacity
are referred to as graphic designers. A graphic designer is not only an artist
but has a clear understanding of past, present and future trends. Has a great ability to also understand human
intellect, mood, and resources. One who can translate also one other person’s
intangible idea into something tangible. This takes great skill and practise,
as for most cases the difference between a 'straight' artist and a graphic
designer, is so that an artist might create out of his or her own initiative,
likes and strengths. Where as a graphic designer might be ‘sat on the hot
bench’, having to interpret others visions, which might remove them from their
own comfort zone. So ultimately, a
graphic designer must be incredibly versatile, resourceful, dynamic, creative
and intuitive.
The tools and mediums used within the trade are the classic drawn, painted, sketched and photographed variants. And with the advent of computers and the relentless spiraling growth of technology, Graphic Designers have become masters at computer generated images (both still and moving). The design and execution of complex typefaces can be seen in books, magazines, menus, credits, invites, webpage’s, fabrics, wall paper, software etc. Thus, resulting in practically ‘us’ being swarmed daily by the world of Graphic Design pretty much everywhere in developed, urbanised culture of our cities towns and villages.
